Beyond the Classroom: Fostering Community at Revolve Gallery

As an educator, I have always believed that our own material practice and professional currency are the richest resources we bring to our students. For me, staying connected to the heartbeat of the contemporary art scene isn't just a hobby—it’s a vital part of being a lifelong learner.

Recently, I’ve had the pleasure of supporting the team at Revolve Gallery and Studio in Darlington. Whether I’m popping in on a weekend to discuss upcoming installations or assisting with the logistical "push and pull" of a new exhibition, these experiences remind me of the collaborative energy we strive to foster in a vibrant Visual Arts faculty.

The ‘Push Pull’ Opening Night It was a privilege to assist with the opening night of the current ‘Push Pull’ exhibition. There is a unique magic in seeing a conceptual investigation transition from a studio space to a professional gallery wall. My role involved more than just "hanging art"—it was about taking part in some of the action, alongside community and connection

Industry-Standard Inspiration Being featured in Revolve’s recent Instagram post was a lovely nod to the collaborative work we do behind the scenes. Bringing these "industry-standard" experiences back to my students—discussing everything from gallery lighting to the logistics of an opening—helps them see the tangible pathways available to them in the creative industries.

When we show our students that we are active participants in the world we are preparing them for, we drive high expectations and prove that artistic excellence is a living, breathing pursuit.
